Global Warming Messing Up Tasty Maple Syrup

Global Warming Messing Up Tasty Maple Syrup

Not only is maple syrup production down, but a lot of it is off-flavor this year

Stockbyte/Thinkstock

Maple Syrup in Danger

Apparently the warmest March ever is now threatening the breakfasts of waffle lovers everywhere, as maple syrup producers claim that the warmer weather has disrupted the creation of tasty syrup.

"We had quite a lot of off-flavored syrup," one producer told Reuters. "I don't think you'd want to put it on a pancake."

Then again, there won't be much syrup to go around. Production in the United States is reportedly down 30 million pounds from last year. Luckily, Quebec still has 38 million pounds of syrup on reserve, so prices have only increased 5 percent. We hate to see what next year's breakfasts will look like.

Hi Gang, I hope everyone is having a great week. Thank you to all of my new subscribers. I hope you find these posts helpful when planning your weekend.

Last week was The Chinese New Year! I hope everyone who celebrated had a wonderful time with family and friends. This week is a Jewish Holiday called Purim. Kids dress up in costumes and give out candy to each other and go to carnivals and parties. For those unfamiliar with this holiday, picture Halloween (with out the ghosts and goblins) and a bunch of triangle pastries called Hamentashens. Jewish or not, if you are at the grocery store, I recommend trying them. They are delicious! There will be some Purim parties happening this weekend and next weekend. For those interested, definitely look out for those on the calendar.

Otherwise, this weekend is a little slow, but they will definitely pick up as we move into March Break! I hope everyone bundles up and has a fun weekend!
