Ayesha Curry, wife of the Warriors’ point guard Stephen Curry, will get her own Food Network program
The real ‘chef Curry’ has been signed to Food Network.
With an eye toward millennial viewership, Food Network has had the foresight to add one of 2016’s most recognizable faces to its programming lineup — Ayesha Curry, the wife of Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry and the reigning NBA MVP.
For the last two years, Ayesha has shared cooking videos on her YouTube channel, often featuring her husband Steph — whose own talents were honored with a culinary verse from Drake on “0 to 100/The Catch Up”: “I been Steph Curry with the shot/Been cookin’ with the sauce, chef, curry with the pot, boy.”
Curry also hosted a local television show, Cookin’ with the Currys, on Comcast Sportsnet, the same network that broadcasts her husband’s games.
News of Ayesha’s show, tentatively titled “At Home with Ayesha,” stirred up mixed feelings on Twitter, where her disapproving comments on what she perceived as a growing trend in women’s fashion toward immodesty were both mocked and celebrated. Curry’s comments also ushered in the birth of popular new meme, where seemingly sunny cooking tips serve as thinly-veiled “slut-shaming” critiques.
For now, Curry’s show, which will air on the Cooking Channel, Food Network’s sister network, is “an idea with Ayesha” that is still in development. Curry’s first cookbook, The Seasoned Life: Food, Family, Faith, and the Joy of Eating Well, comes out this fall.
